Growing your email list doesn't have to be complicated. Flodesk makes it super simple with three different form types: full page, inline, and popup forms. Each one serves a different purpose, and I'm going to explain what makes each unique and show you how to customize them to match your brand.

What Are Forms

Forms in Flodesk let visitors join your newsletter. They help you build an audience and make connections over email. They are easy to set up, look great, and sync directly into your email lists and automations.

The 3 Form Types

  • Full Page: A stand-alone landing page with a shareable URL. Great for social media bios, emails and for people without a website.

  • Inline: Embed directly on your website. Ideal to blend with your website content and have signups without taking visitors away from your content.

  • Popup: Appears as a floating overlay on your website. Good for grabbing attention without taking visitors away from your content.

The templates may look different, but they’re all versions of these three main types.

How To Create A Form

  • Go to the Forms tab within your Flodesk account.

  • For a new form, click + New Form.

  • Browse the templates. Remember, the templates may look different, but they’re all versions of the three main types: full page, inline, popup.

Tip: If you’ve already made forms before and want something similar, you can save time by duplicating an existing one. Click the three dots and select “Duplicate.”

Choosing a Template That Fits

Start with the template closest to your vision. Important note: Flodesk templates lock in the layout, so you can’t move elements around or add new elements. You can:

  • Change the image or video

  • Edit text (headline and body copy, fonts, colours)

  • Adjust email fields (add/remove first name, last name, or preferences)

  • Style the signup button (text, font, colour)

Formatting Your Image

If you're adding an image simply click the image area and upload your file.

  • Use the zoom tool for the right size.

  • You can add an overlay to the image.

  • It’s good to always add descriptive alt text to your images. This helps screen readers and supports SEO by describing your image content.

Formatting Your Text

The editing panel lets you update all the text areas, but keep in mind you can’t add new text blocks or move elements around. If you delete a block, it’s gone unless you use the undo button.

  • Replace the template header and description with your own content.

  • You can choose font families, sizes, and letter spacing to keep things on brand.

  • You can apply different fonts or formatting to text within the same block, such as a small subheader above a larger headline. Simply highlight the words you want to change.

Configuring Email Fields and Signup Button

  • The Email field is always required. But you can opt to turn on First Name, Last Name or preferences and can choose which are required.

  • Edit the button text as needed.

  • Adjust the visual style of the input fields and button (rounded corners, outlines, background colours, etc).

  • You can choose font families, sizes, and letter spacing to keep things on brand.

Customizing the Thank You Page or Redirect

After someone submits your form, decide what happens next:

  • Show a thank you message. You can use one of Flodesk’s defaults or write your own.

  • Customize the fonts and colours so it matches the rest of your form.

  • Or, redirect them to a custom URL.

Form Settings and Testing Your Form

Before sharing your form, run through these quick checks to make sure everything works smoothly:

  • Decide if you want double opt-in turned on.

  • Choose whether to receive an email notification for every new signup.

  • Double-check which segment your subscribers will be tagged into.

  • If using a Full Page: edit the form’s share link, add a link preview image, title, and short description.

  • If using a Popup: Decide when to display this popup and if you want to show the popup to return visitors.

  • View your form on desktop and mobile.

  • Sign yourself up.

Tip: If you’re using a Popup or Inline form and need a guide on how to embed your form onto your Squarespace website, then visit my blog post on how to integrate Flodesk with Squarespace.

Final Thoughts:

Creating forms in Flodesk really is that straightforward. The key is starting with the right form type for what you need, then making it your own with your brand colours, fonts, and messaging. Don't skip the testing phase, check how your form looks and works on both desktop and mobile before you launch it. With these three form options in your toolkit, you can start capturing emails in a way that feels authentic to your brand and gives your audience a smooth signup experience.
